Electric Forest camping in Rothbury, Michigan is classic Midwest forest festival packing: tree canopy, possible rain, cool nights, dusty paths when dry, and a lot of walking between camp and stages. This essentials list keeps you focused on systems that protect sleep, mobility, and energy — then points you to live collections and the Pack Planner.

Electric Forest camping rules we checked (2026-10-18)
- No bikes. Bicycles, skateboards and scooters are on the prohibited list for both the campgrounds and the venue, and confiscated ones may not come back. Leave the bike at home and walk.
- No external generators. An RV's built-in generator running on the RV's own fuel is OK. Gas, diesel and kerosene generators and gas cans are not. Solar generators are exempt.
- Cooking: no grills, open flame, candles or charcoal. Small Coleman-style camp stoves are the one exception, on propane bottles up to 1 lb.
- No glass (mirrors are OK), no tiki torches, and speakers no bigger than 11 x 5 x 5 inches.
- RVs are welcome with an RV pass. See the RV section below.

Essentials mindset (forest first)
Pack for weather swings, not a single Instagram afternoon. A good Electric Forest kit is boring in the best way: dry sleep clothes, working lights, drinkable water plan, and shoes that survive mud.
If you only upgrade four things this year: rain shell, headlamp + power bank, sleep insulation, and hydration.
Weather & rain essentials
Must-have
- Waterproof jacket with a usable hood, like the Frogg Toggs Ultra-Lite2 (men's / women's)
- Footwear that can handle wet grass and mud
- Spare socks in sealed bags or a dry bag
- Tent footprint + reliable rainfly — Tents
- Extra stakes/cord — Camp Tools & Repair · repair kit
Nice-to-have
- Compact tarp for a dry hangout pocket
- Packable blanket that can live in camp (kept dry)
For what to wear in the forest itself, day, night, and the walk back to camp, our sister brand Raverr has a guide on what to wear to Electric Forest.
Lights essentials (non-negotiable)
Forest camping nights are darker than open-field deserts.
Must-have
- Headlamp on your person after sunset
- A second light on your body for the walk back, like a Noxgear LED vest. Bikes aren't allowed at Electric Forest, so skip the bike gear.
- A small USB front-and-rear light set still earns its spot without a bike: strap the white one to your tent door so you find home, and the red one to the back of your pack so you're seen on dark paths.
- Power bank + cables staged in one pouch
- Small LED lantern for cooking / common tent space
Shop the set: Bike & Camp Lights, and stick to headlamps, lanterns and wearables for this one. In Pack Planner, leave bike nights off for Electric Forest.
Hydration & daytime heat essentials
Canopy helps, but dance floors and midday trails still dehydrate you.
Must-have
- Wearable hydropack you’ll refill all day — for bag-check / clear-bag weekends prefer clear (RAVERUNNER Clear 2L or ClearedM Clear 1.5L); keep the opaque desert daypack as a camp workhorse backup
- Soft layer that doubles as sit pad / sundown wrap: festival pashmina (classic alt: Achillea black & white)
- Electrolyte packets for multi-day output (follow label; not medical advice)
- Camp water jugs stored out of direct sun when possible
Collection: Hydration & Cooling. Kit pick when you want a day system: Desert Day Kit. Personalize rain/cold toggles in free Pack Planner.
Dust & sun (lighter stack)
Electric Forest is not a dust-first fest, but dry weekends kick up grit.
- Neck gaiter
- Optional goggles for windy dirt
- Optional masks multipack
Browse Dust Goggles & Masks only after weather/lights/hydration are handled.
Shade & rest pockets
Clearings get hot. A simple shade wall or tarp improves naps and food storage.
- Reflective shade kit or tarp + stakes
- Collection: Shade & Canopies
- Kit pick: Shade Starter Kit
Sleep & camp comfort essentials
Must-have
- Sleep system colder than the app forecast
- Insulating pad
- Clean sleep layer sealed from wet gear
- Earplugs / eye mask if you are a light sleeper near busy rows
Upgrades: Camp Chairs & Comfort. Kitchen basics for warm recovery meals: Camp Kitchen.

Arrival day sequence (Rothbury camping)
1. Claim and square your footprint before decorating.
2. Stake tent + rainfly; add guy lines if wind is up.
3. Create a mud/wet shoe zone so the sleeping pad stays clean.
4. Stage lights + power bank in one obvious pouch.
5. Fill hydration and put electrolytes where you will actually see them in the morning.
6. Only then hang tapestries / set up the cute camp bits.
That order keeps forest weather from owning your weekend. If you want a guided kit map after the checklist, use Pack Planner and jump into Festival Kits.
Optional comfort upgrades (after essentials)
- Prefer a real chair over sitting on wet ground — Camp Chairs & Comfort
- Warm beverage kit for 4 a.m. returns on a small Coleman-style stove with 1 lb propane, the only flame Electric Forest allows — Camp Kitchen
- Shared shade wall for day naps — Shade & Canopies
- Face dust comfort for dry dirt days — Dust Goggles & Masks
Essentials first. Upgrades second. That is how forest weekends stay fun past night two.
Electric Forest in an RV
An RV pass is a campsite for your rig, not a ticket. Electric Forest sells GA RV and GA Powered RV passes, plus Good Life RV options, and the powered passes come with 30 amp service. Each RV site is about 20 by 50 feet, with room for the rig, one companion car and a hangout area. The companion car has to arrive with the RV and be under 16 feet. Everyone in the rig still needs a wristband.
Why we'd take an RV here: rain is the Electric Forest wildcard, and a hard roof beats a soaked tent at 4 a.m. You get a dry bed, a fridge instead of a cooler of melted ice, and a real door against cold Michigan nights. External gas generators are banned, so a powered pass, the RV's built-in generator or a solar generator is how you run the fan and charge the camp.
Renting one? Our Electric Forest RV camping guide has the pass details and rental tips. New to rigs? Our guide to festival camping with an RV or a car covers power, awnings, water and carbon monoxide safety. Check current RV pass types and prices on the official Electric Forest pass page.
