Snowbombing 2027 Packing List: A Ski Week Festival in Mayrhofen (5–10 April)

Friends bundled in warm coats and goggles on a cold festival night

Snowbombing 2027, the festival's 27th edition, runs Monday 5 to Saturday 10 April 2027 in Mayrhofen, a village at 630 m in Austria's Zillertal valley. It is a ski week and a festival in one: mountaintop sets in the afternoon, then the village goes until the early hours. That means you are packing for snow, spring sun and a week of late nights, not a campsite. Here is what the official site says, and what we would bring.

How the week works

  • The core festival days are Monday 5 to Saturday 10 April 2027. Snowbombing recommends arriving Sunday 4 April and leaving Sunday 11 April to catch the opening and closing parties.
  • There are no day wristbands. You book a week-long festival wristband with accommodation for at least five nights.
  • Booking starts with a £50 per person deposit. The balance is due by 1 March, either by monthly direct debit or in payments of at least £200 by 1 December and £350 by 1 February.
  • It is strictly 18+. Bring photo ID with proof of age (a driving licence or passport) to swap your e-ticket for a wristband.
  • Mountain venues usually run 12pm to 4pm, and the last lift down is at 4:30pm. In-town events start from 3pm and go into the early hours.
  • You need a lift pass or mountain pass to reach the mountain venues, even if you don't ski.

Getting there, and what you can carry

  • Fly into Munich or Innsbruck. Snowbombing runs airport transfers, arriving 3 to 5 April and returning 10 to 11 April, so book flights to match.
  • There is also a UK coach from selected cities, leaving Saturday 3 April and coming back from Saturday 10 April. Coach allowance is one soft-shell main bag up to 50 × 50 × 100 cm plus one piece of hand luggage. Skis or a snowboard count as excess luggage and must be paid for in advance.
  • In resort, a ski bus runs every 30 minutes during the day until 5:30pm, and a night shuttle covers the same route every 30 minutes into the early hours.

A soft bag limit and a week of layers don't mix well, so pack light, warm layers rather than bulky ones, and compress them in a dry bag.

Hire, money and the small stuff

  • Snowbombing strongly recommends pre-booking ski or board hire, because availability in resort can be limited. Most hire shops don't stock boots above UK size 12, so bigger feet should bring their own boots.
  • Most venues are cashless. Your RFID wristband is loaded in euros. A few mountain venues and unaffiliated bars don't take it, so carry a card or some cash as backup.
  • Link your wristband to a Cashless account before you go. If you lose it, they can only move your balance to a new one if it's linked or you have the 6-digit code from the back.
  • You can't take your own food or drink, including glass bottles, into the venues. Personal phones and small cameras are fine; professional cameras, tripods and video gear are not.
  • Apartments include towels and bed linen, with small kitchenettes (two or three hobs), so a few breakfast basics go a long way.

Insurance and documents

Travel insurance is a condition of booking, and Snowbombing says it should cover pre-existing conditions, cancellation, medical costs, repatriation and winter sports. It also recommends a UK GHIC (or an existing EHIC), and a passport valid for at least six months after you get home. Non-British passport holders should check entry rules with their embassy.

What we would pack

Ski goggles, a helmet and your ski or board kit come from a ski shop or the hire shop; we don't sell those. What we do carry is the warm-layer and late-night kit around them:

For the cold-night basics, see our cold-weather festival guide and winter and indoor festival packing list, or shop the whole Cold Weather collection.
