A contoured blackout sleep mask for the hour when the sun hits the tent and camp is still asleep. Soft Landings gives it C-shaped eye cups that keep pressure off your eyelids and lashes, a ventilated mesh shell, and Velcro adjustment on both the eye cups and the head strap, so you can set where the cups sit on your face. The brand rates it 100% blackout and says the C-shaped cups make side sleeping more comfortable. Built for dusty desert festival camps.

Why we picked this

We've been sleeping in tents, vans and parking lots since the late '80s: Dead tour first, then desert camps ever since. What ends the night usually isn't the bass. It's the sun. By 7 a.m. a tent is a lightbox, and a cheap flat mask slides off the second you roll onto your side. This one is shaped for that: the cups curve away from your eyes, and the strap and cup position both adjust, which is what side sleepers need. We've used Soft Landings' drink and recovery mixes ourselves, they work great for us, and we trust the brand. This pick rests on that trust plus the mask's design and specs. Skip it if you already have a mask you trust or you sleep in a blacked-out RV.

Desert / festival notes

  • Keep it in a zip bag during the day. Mesh is breathable, and that also means dust gets in.
  • Pair it with earplugs. For sleeping near a sound camp, see Loop Quiet earplugs. For music, see the Soft Landings SoundControl earplugs.
  • A mask handles light, not heat. Shade over the tent still decides whether you can sleep past sunrise. See shade kits.
