Dustproof Supply: gear that survives the festival.
A rinse at the end of a dusty day makes the whole weekend better. Here's how we rig a camp shower.
Rules first. Each festival sets its own rules and they change from year to year. Check the official festival FAQ and the current-year rules before you buy anything on this page. Where our list and the official rules disagree, go with the official rules.
Many fests have rules on gray water (the water that runs off when you rinse). Some require you to catch and pack it out. Check yours.
The setup
- A 5-gallon solar shower bag. Fill it in the morning and lay it in the sun.
- Hang it from a strong frame or a canopy leg with carabiners. A full bag is heavy.
- A privacy shower tent or a tarp tied to the canopy, staked down for wind.
- A mat or pallet to stand on so your feet stay out of the mud.
- A tub or a basin if you have to catch your gray water.
No time to shower?
XL body wipes get you through. See Camp Comfort for more.
Test the bag's water temperature on your wrist before you use it. In full sun it can get hotter than you expect.
