Most festival packing lists treat shade as “bring a canopy.” First-timers learn the hard way: fabric alone is not a system. This guide is a DIY shade packing list — what to haul so your cover stays up, cools the floor, and survives the weekend.

Why DIY shade beats “one pop-up”
Retail pop-ups fail for predictable reasons: short stakes in soft dirt, missing guy lines, no side wall for low sun, and zero airflow under a sealed roof. A DIY or hybrid system lets you:
- Size cover to your site (not the box dimensions)
- Add reflective / open-weave layers that dump heat instead of trapping it
- Anchor for wind with screw-in stakes and redundant cord
- Combine roof + floor (mat) + airflow (fan) into one comfort stack

1. Frame / structure
